hikes

many of you know that hiking has become my thing. a favorite pastime. about 7 years ago, i started hiking. i drove to a local park and got out of my car, found a trail and started walking. i remember that first hike so well. it was at Carlos State Park.

not knowing what to entirely expect, i followed the trails, looking at the nature that surrounded me. i felt so small. it was new and exciting. by the time i finished my hike, i realized i was a little lighter and, i remember breathing. it wasn't the automatic breathing we do to survive. it was deep, purposeful breathes. i felt rejuvenated. invigorated. safe and at peace.

since then each hike has been an escape. an escape from the world. these hikes are the place where i find refuge even for a few minutes with today's busy demands. it has reinforced my thoughts with many decisions. it is a time to feel my feels. it has taught me to not rush, to take it easy, to be thoughtful about possible outcomes, and to breathe those deep breathes.

to this day, hiking brings me great joy and peace. when i am need some thinking time, i head for a trail. thankful for the peace it brings to me.

my hope is each of you have something in your life to help you remember to breathe and brings you a peace
